\nHello,
\nWelcome to Sunstroke Press’ newsletter.
\nSince last month’s introduction, we have announced more details about our first title, Diaries of a Wet Bird, a collection of work by documentary photographer Sophia Cutino. The book is a satisfying 90 page excursion through Cutino’s lens, encased neatly within soft, satin-finish covers designed by Sunstroke Mag alum Jing Tong Teo. It’s slated to release on January 28, 2025, and is currently available for pre-order on our shop for $30 (sans shipping). We’ll be closing pre-orders on Friday, December 6th, so these next few days will be your final chance to secure a copy until it comes out next year.

Although we’re still ironing out the details, we’re certain that we’ll be hosting a release party in New York City within a few days of the book’s release date. Our community showed up for our fall fundraiser; just check out the photos on our Instagram, courtesy of Cassidy Howard and Isabella Corona. As a result, we’re able to host more events supporting our authors and print media! Here’s to more books and fun little jaunts in celebration of them. I’m crossing my fingers that the same energy will slowly flow westward, all the way to California, so that our bicoastal operation will finally be in perfect sync… We’ll work on that in the new year.
\nWith gratitude,
Alex

\n\n | \n | A few dear friends of mine are part of the band GC Candy. They even played stripped-down versions of a couple of their tracks at our recent open mic fundraiser. From Oahu, Hawai’i, and now based in New York, GC Candy’s album No More Heroes is magic from top to bottom. —Birdy Francis, Managing Director | \n
\n | \n | A recent and special discovery has been Girls’ Night, a photobook by Irish photographer Eimear Lynch. Though I grew up on another continent, her ode to feminine friendships through teen dance culture feels nostalgic and relatable. Bonus points to her as it intentionally passes the Bechdel test. —Marie Figuereo, Editor | \n
\n | \n | When the holiday season rolls around, without fail, I retreat into my bedroom at every opportunity to game until the sun rises. How can you blame me? It’s so cold outside, and I have a long weekend every three weeks. My recent pickup is Moonstone Island, a life sim. The game rivals its closest point of comparison, Stardew Valley, and is equally exciting and expansive (without the stress of the mines). Moonstone definitely takes more direct cues from — what I assume, at least — the Game Boy line of The Legend of Zelda, the creature collecting format of Pokémon, and the oddities and design of both Earthbound and Yume Nikki… but that’s not necessarily a bad thing! —Alex Ramos, Creative Director and Editor, Nonfiction | \n
\n The Polyester Podcast\nListen on their website \n | \n\n | I have tried so many podcasts, but this is the only one I listen to religiously. Ione and Gina dive into whichever chronically online topic is most prevalent that week. Of course, you should also check out Polyester Zine. They’ve got a really good subscription service worth every penny. —Birdy Francis, Managing Director | \n
